Diabetes Mellitus Signs And Symptoms

Here’s the Truth
About Curing Your Diabetes!

Diabetes mellitus is a very serious disease or medical condition, in fact its a killer! It is probably the fastest growing disease in the world today and it is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States, with over 200,000 deaths resulting from diabetes-related complications each and every year!

According to the Center for Disease Control, 17 million Americans are found to be diabetic, with around 6 million going about their daily chores completely unaware of the signs and symptoms of diabetes they are exibiting or that they even have the disease. For anybody who has been diagnosed with this dreaded disease, learning to accept the fact that they are diabetic and then try to cope with it has never been an easy thing to achieve.

Like most chronic diseases, diabetes exacts a mental toll which demands getting used to and learning to deal with. It also opens up a whole new world of remedies, solutions, therapies and all manners of treatment for diabetes which you need to explore and wrap your brain around in your quest to control the potential of this disease to ravage your body.

However in spite of all the dread, uncertainties and fear surrounding diabetes mellitus, anyone living with diabetes (whether it is adult onset diabetes, juvenile diabetes, gestational diabetes, type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes) can live a very healthy life providing they adhere to a strict regime of diet, medications and exercise. To live to a ripe old age with any form of diabetes, self-discipline is the watch-word!

When asking yourself questions like how do you get diabetes, what are the symptoms of diabetes, do i have diabetes, what causes diabetes, how can you get diabetes, what is the symptoms of diabetes, how to treat diabetes or how to cure diabetes, it pays to first learn what the definition of diabetes is. So what is diabetes exactly? Put simply, diabetes mellitus is a blood glucose disease.

It is a disease characterized by the body’s inability to either produce enough insulin or utilize the insulin produced properly. There are two main types of diabetes:

1. Type 1 Diabetes – This is generally referred to as “insulin dependent diabetes“. It is associated with a malfunctioning pancreas which is not producing enough insulin for the body’s use. It mostly occur in children (which is why it used to be referred to as “juvenile diabetes“) and young adults. This type of diabetes is generally treated with doses of insulin.

2. Type 2 Diabetes – This type is generally referred to as “non-insulin dependent diabetes“. It is also sometimes called “adult onset diabetes” largely because it is commonly found in older adults, although it has now been seen developing in the younger generation as well, including teenagers and younger children. Type II diabetes is usually treated with tablets, diet and exercise.

Another type of diabetes worthy of note is called Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. This type is pregnancy-related and it affects 3 to 5% of all pregnant women. Women with gestational diabetes usually develop this condition towards the tail end of their pregnancy and the condition usually disappear after child-birth but such mothers stand a much greater risk of developing type II diabetes later in life if care is not taken.

Pregnancy And Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes And Pregnancy

Gestational diabetes mellitus is one typical disorder that affects more than 4% of pregnant women in America. The cause of gestational diabetes is still not clearly known even today. The condition develops during pregnancy and subsides on its own after delivery. Diabetes and pregnancy experts suggest that stress related to pregnancy could be one of the probable causes of gestational diabetes in pregnant women. Nonetheless, irrespective of the cause of the condition, women during their pregnancy are recommended a gestational diabetes diet for maintaining their health and delivering a healthy baby as well.

If a woman has had diabetes in the past or was diabetic prior to her pregnancy, she needs to be given a gestational diabetes diet. The condition is such that it increases the risk associated with fetal deaths and the death rate is quite high in mothers having the condition. Hyperglycemia or increased levels of blood sugar in the expecting mother is the main cause of all the associated problems with the condition. In some cases, death of mothers with gestational diabetes has also been reported.

Blood Glucose Levels

When the blood glucose levels increase dramatically in mothers, the fetus also begins producing increased amounts of insulin to cope with the excessive glucose levels and this creates a problem. Increased levels of insulin in the baby (fetus) causes macrosomia, a typical condition in which a person develops an abnormally large head. It can also cause problems with the respiratory functions, jaundice, hypokalemia, hypocalcaemia and hypoglycemia.

For women with diabetes and particularly gestational diabetes during pregnancy, experts recommend a well planned gestational diabetes diet to ensure good health of the mother and the baby as well. It is crucially important to successfully control the levels of blood sugar during pregnancy and after delivery with certain dietary modifications.

Diet For Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

A diet for gestational diabetes mellitus is prepared according to the individualized needs of an expecting mother. Factors such as body weight, age and height play important roles in determining the right foods. By taking these factors into consideration it is possible to make a healthy diet plan for diabetes that would provide the body with the required amounts of nutrients and also control the blood sugar levels. Additionally, the expecting mother should monitor her blood glucose levels from time to time, at least 5 times a day to ensure that they are under control. Frequent blood sugar monitoring is also as important as a gestational diabetes diet.

Diabetic Diet Plan

The chosen diabetic diet plan must meet the requirements of the pregnant mother, considering the fact that she needs more calories than she had been consuming. For the initial period, which is the 1st trimester, a pregnant woman can gain up to 4lbs which isn’t very healthy during the 1st trimester. For the rest of the months, if she gains at a pace of 1 pound a month, it is fine. Based on the months of pregnancy a healthy diet for diabetes needs to be planned for the mother. The diet should comprise of all the essentials that a pregnant woman needs while considering the complication she has, which means less sugar, less carbs, adequate proteins and less fats. Also, she needs plenty of folic acid in the forms of tablets and foods.

It is very crucial to have a healthy gestational diabetes diet plan for the mother and the baby. Seek expert help without any delay if you are not sure about the kind of diet that fits your particular situation.

Natural Cures For Diabetes

We have had enough of the lying, cheating, murderous modern medical establishment! The world of modern allopathic medicine is fooling and robbing us blind – and even worse, they are doing it in broad day-light with the help of corrupt law-makers! The raw power of money has blinded doctors and medical practitioners to such a degree that they are now willingly suppressing the truth regarding diabetes – its control, management, and even its cure! That’s right, I said it …”cure!”

What I’m about to say next should shock you even more! In the medical world of today, it’s now very much against the law to say the word “cure” when describing anything that can actually cure you. Instead, it’s okay to merely refer to a genuine cure as something that can help treat or help offset the symptoms of some health condition or disease. But if you say “cure”, even when you in fact have a real and genuine cure for a disease and can prove it, you will almost certainly get arrested!

Ever wonder why no one ever talks about curing diabetes? Everyone seems to be content with finding ways to control diabetes or live with diabetes. And for good reason. It’s simply because no one’s out to cure anyone because there’s little or no money in doing so.

Instead, keeping you sick and marginally pain-free is all anyone’s really out to do for you these days – as doing so means you’re being forced to buy all the same drugs over and over again, and again, and … you get the point? Of course, if a cure came along it would mean you buy it one time, and then you’re cured – and that’s that, over and done with!

Listen, if somebody showed you how to cure diabetes they wouldn’t make very much money off of you, right? But if somebody invents a pill or a drug that helps you live with diabetes, they’ll get your money week-after-week, month-after-month, year-after-year until the day you die. Make sense? In fact, there’s a saying in the drug industry: Cures Kill Profits!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have to depend on some big drug company to keep me alive and comfortable just so I can give them more of my hard-earned money every month. I’d much rather take control of my own health and find a way to banish diabetes.

Recently a number of doctors, medical scientists and researchers armed with real answers and real solutions are stepping up and are NOT afraid of “Uncle Big-Bully Brother!” One courageous fellow by the name of Matt Traverso is doing exactly this!

Not only that, Matt Traverso has lectured and personally helped individuals beat the disease to the point that proven sufferers have actually been re-diagnosed as no longer having the disease at all! Remember, modern medical science has already labeled diabetes as incurable!!!

But why don’t we hear about this information from the American Diabetes Association? The truth is, the American Diabetes Association are benefiting hugely from the current trend in diabetes. They are funded by pharmaceutical companies who would lose out if people reversed their diabetic conditions.

The treatment of Diabetes brings in over $10 Million Dollars EVERY SINGLE HOUR of the day to Doctors, Pharmaceutical companies, and diabetes testing supplies manufacturers and retailers. With that kind of money at stake “Big Pharma” is going to extreme lengths to silence people with genuine information about natural cures and alternatives for treating diabetes.

Therefore it’s not certain how long Matt will be allowed to do this because “Uncle Sambo” has actually started using “Gestapo” tactics whereby people and businesses truly offering “cures” have been raided with masked armed police who even go to the point of forcing customers in the stores to lie down on the floor face-down at gunpoint!

So, if you’re wise and want to find out about this while it’s still possible for you to do so, then just click on the link below. But don’t be surprised if one day soon you return to find this site completely removed with a United States flag waving in its place – in the name of “freedom” no less!

What Causes Diabetes – What Are The Causes of Diabetes?

An estimated 23 million Americans are affected by diabetes mellitus – one of the most commonly dreaded medical conditions in the world today. As the cause of diabetes cannot simply be attributed to just a single factor, one question always lingers in the mind – what causes diabetes?

Well, there isn’t any definite condition or thing that we can say causes diabetes. However, there can be innumerable things responsible for triggering the condition. New researches are being conducted every year to find out the underlying cause of diabetes, and many new facts are being discovered by medical science.

There are too many factors being held responsible for triggering diabetes, which could otherwise be controlled by making certain changes and corrections in our lifestyle. Medical experts and researchers have identified some of the potential factors that can lead to this condition developing in a person.

Let us take a close look at the following factors that are attributable to causes of diabetes:

Genetic or Hereditary Factors: Diabetes risk factors have been associated with genetic conditions for long. There is a strong belief that some genes are actually responsible for triggering diabetes. Diabetes is very common in close blood relationships, such as a child inheriting it from the mother or father or grandparents. However, if both the parents adiabetic, chances are that the child will develop the condition inevitably.

Age: Type 2 diabetes is more common in older people while type 1 tends to be seen in younger people below the age of 40. 80% of type 2 diabetics are over 50 years. Therefore, age is also considered to be one of the major diabetes causes.

Improper Diet: Poor nutrition is also responsible for causing diabetes in many patients. Diabetes symptoms are commonly seen in people having low protein and low fiber diets. Eating too much junk or refined foods can also trigger diabetes.

Sedentary Lifestyle: Diabetes mellitus is fairly common in people having a sedentary lifestyle. Increasing activity can actually reduce the diabetes symptoms and also cure the condition.

Obesity: Lack of activity leads to obesity, which is another important diabetes cause. People who are fat, overweight or obese stand a much greater chance of developing type 2 diabetes.

Stress: Emotional disturbances or physical injury can also trigger diabetes if there is an underlying condition present.

Drugs: There are certain drugs that can trigger diabetes, such as risperidone, olanzapine, Clozapine, ziprasidone, quetiapine and other such groups.

Hypertension: Hypertension has also been linked with diabetes as a medical condition that can actually trigger or cause diabetes in some people.

Now you know what causes diabetes in real life! However, these causes aren’t foolproof. There could be some other diabetes causes we have not perhaps addressed here too.

Before being diagnosed with diabetes, there’s an early stage which is often known as the pre-diabetes stage. During that stage, if a person can make the necessary lifestyle changes this can prevent the disease from developing any further. There are certain diabetes symptoms that occur during this stage, such as fatigue, tiredness, blurred vision, frequent urination and increased thirst. People experiencing any or all of these signs and symptoms of diabetes should see a doctor for a diabetes test without delay.

As there are too many stories about the causes of diabetes, you should emphasize on improving your health condition first while trying to determine it’s cause. Be active, eat healthy and live a happy life, and you will certainly have no reason to worry about developing this dreaded disease.

Diet For Diabetes

It is very important to have a carefully planned diet once you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes. However, everybody has different set of dietary requirements based on their diabetes type, the body weight, style, any other diseases, age, personal requirements and level of physical activity. In order to keep the blood sugar levels in check one must follow a healthy diabetes diet and maintain a normal body weight.

Here’s the Truth
About Curing Your Diabetes!

For diabetics who need to use oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin need to have regulated or measured diet. Their diet needs to be planned proportionately a healthy ratio of food components needs to be carefully maintained..

In order to find out whether or not you are taking a healthy diabetic diet, you can check where the foods lie in the Glycemic Index. The Glycemic Index or GI is used to measure the different food groups according to their effect on your blood sugar. Foods that spike the blood glucose levels right after eating are considered high glycemic foods while the rest belong to the category of low glycemic foods.

Every diet for diabetes is planned in such a manner so that the patient gets the correct amount of nutrients depending on their lifestyle, growth and development. One has to have a diet that has high nutritional values but low in carbs and calories. Nutritious diet for diabetes is a must for adapting to the metabolic changes occurring in patients.

Diabetic Diet Plans

The most important food groups to be considered when planning a diet for diabetes are proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Proteins are required in a diabetic diet. Diabetics must include 20 to 25 percent of protein in their regular meal plan. Whey protein is considered the best for diabetes.

Here’s the Truth
About Curing Your Diabetes!

Carbohydrates must be contained within the range of 40 to 60 percent as a part of your daily diet. Carbohydrates play a great role in regulating your blood sugar level. If you can use carbs wisely, it can be helpful for diabetics.

Fats, on the other hand, can sometimes override the health benefits of carbs. When you are planning to include fats in your diabetic diet plan, make sure you include only monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. These fats are much healthier when compared to trans fats and saturated fats. Also these healthy fats help in lowering the chances of getting the most out of carbohydrates.

How can you determine the value of foods? Well, it’s easy; you just need to read the labels carefully to see the nutritional values of the contents of each food package. If you have to eat out frequently, you can ask for the essential nutritional information about the foods being served at the restaurant. They do provide the details.

You need not give up sugar completely if you are diabetic as researchers have stated that sugar can be included in moderate amounts until of course it is affecting your blood sugar levels. Although foods devoid of sugar are always a better choice, you can make the necessary changes and pamper your sweet tooth once in a while.

Diabetic Foods

If you are diabetic, you must learn all about the food for diabetics and how to incorporate the same in your regular meal plan. One of the best ways of treating diabetes is by controlling your food intake; it helps in relieving the symptoms of the condition. It is imperative to know what you must eat and what you must avoid when you are diabetic.

Scientists have cited that in the next two decades the global rate of patients with Type 2 diabetes would be twice the present number, which indeed is alarming. It is only through a proper diet for diabetics that you can actually control the condition and relieve yourself from the diabetes symptoms.

Here’s the Truth
About Curing Your Diabetes!

Ideally a diet containing higher amounts of fiber and lower amounts of fats is what is recommended for a diabetic patient. One has to cut out saturated and trans fats from their diet and also reduce the use of sugar and sweet foods. Saturated fats include animal fats like lard, butter and cheese, cream, chocolate and milk.

Foods for Diabetics – What You Can Eat

A diabetes menu can include adequate portions of carbohydrates. However, there is a measured portion for every individual which is better recommended by the doctor. Carbohydrates are the valuable sources of energy, minerals and essential vitamins. It provides you body with healthy fiber as well that helps in maintaining the blood glucose levels. Peas, beans, barley, oats and other foods belonging to these groups are loaded with fiber. You can include whole grain products like bread and some diabetic cookies for the purpose. These foods are very much a part of the regular American diabetes diet.

You must include a lot of vegetables in your regular diabetic diet plan; vegetables are the perfect foods for diabetics. You can include a wide variety of vegetables like tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, spinach, cucumbers and cabbage. You can have them raw as salads or cooked with very little oil.

Fruits are good foods for diabetics as well, but as they contain natural sugars it is better to choose fruits with caution. Although diabetics need at least 2 servings of fruits regularly, you must avoid canned fruits as they are packed with sugary preservatives. Instead you can have whole fruits.

Proteins are a must for every diabetes meal. You can include lean meat, tofu, peanut butter, egg whites, fish, poultry, nuts and bans as some of the richest sources of proteins.

Foods to Avoid
There are certain foods that diabetics must not take. If you want to control the rising and falling blood glucose levels, you have to be strict about what you are eating.

Carbohydrates as stated above are good for diabetics when eaten in moderation. However, there are certain carbohydrates that you cannot eat, such as corn and potatoes. They are harmful.

Fruits are not recommended for diabetics due to high sugar content. Although natural, sugar has the same effect in any form. Less sugary fruits should be chosen in this respect.

Milk and milk products are strictly restricted, especially full cream milk. The skimmed version should be fine if taken in moderation.

Sweets and fats are better to be avoided. They have no nutritional value and they only add up to your tension and anxiety and increasing blood glucose numbers.

Diabetes and diet are interdependent. For diabetics, diet is about eating healthy so that your blood sugar levels are under proper control. However, if you are diabetic it does not mean that you need to follow any special diet plan. For most diabetics, diet plans simply means eating a wide variety of foods in specified portions and maintaining regular time for meals.

This actually means that diet for diabetics must include a wholesome combination of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Also, it is important to maintain consistency as the body tends to respond to fat and calories by creating a stupendous rise in the blood sugar levels. Rather than being restrictive, a diabetic diet plan is about eating nutritious foods and maintaining a low fat diet plan.

Meal Planning
A diabetic meal plan helps in establishing the routine for eating regular meals and also for choosing nutritious foods in correct amounts. You must maintain one diet plan that contains the required amounts of proteins, vitamins, fats, carbohydrates and other essentials, distributed according to your needs. Following such a meal plan would give you an idea about how much you need to eat at every meal.

What you are eating and how much you are eating has a great effect on your blood glucose level. Keep that in mind! Diabetes and diet are deeply related. So, you need a diet plan that would control your overeating habits, help you choose better foods and also contribute to weight loss. Your body weight could be a cause of diabetes and therefore a healthy weight loss diet is all that you need.

The Importance of Glycemic Index (GI)
Diabetics are usually recommended a low glycemic diet. Glycemic index is used for selecting foods for diabetics, particularly carbohydrates. High glycemic index foods tend to increase the blood sugar levels while the low glycemic index foods are much healthier.

Carbohydrates
It is important to count the amount of carbohydrates that you are eating if you are a diabetic. Although the same is recommended for any healthy individual, for diabetics it needs to be followed religiously. Diet for diabetes does include carbohydrates, but in moderate portions, you must maintain a particular time and amount of carbohydrate consumption regularly.

Healthy carbohydrates include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes and low fat dairy products. A diabetic must eat 1500 calorie diet and not more than that. Their diet should comprise of all these essentials to keep them healthy and also maintain the blood glucose numbers.

High-fiber Diet
A high fiber diet is helpful for heart patients and for diabetics as well. Dietary fiber is basically the food group that cannot be digested by the body. Such foods include vegetables, whole fruits, legumes, wheat bran, whole-wheat flour and nuts.

Trans fats and Saturated fats
Diabetics are at a risk of developing heart diseases and as such they are always recommended a low fat diet, especially trans fat and saturated fat. This is a very important factor to be considered.

On an average, diabetes and diet go hand in hand. You should learn how to limit the different food groups. Here’s a suggestion.

Proteins: 15% to 20% daily
Carbohydrates: 45% to 65% daily
Fats: 20% to 35% daily

This should be your regular diet plan.

Diabetes And Alcohol

The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests that if at all people choose to drink alcohol, they should always drink moderately. An individual needs to limit their alcohol intake to 1 or 2 drinks a day. Studies have revealed that people who drink regular, but in moderation have lesser chances of developing heart diseases when compared to the non-drinkers.

However, if you drink alcohol excessively, you are at an increased risk of many health complications, including obesity, stroke, high blood pressure, breast cancer etc. Alcohol and diabetes cannot go hand in hand. In fact, people with diabetes are not allowed to drink alcohol at all.

Alcohol and fats are processed by the body in a similar manner, thus contributing to the increasing amounts of calories. Hence, drinking alcohol can aggravate the blood sugar levels. If you still feel that you want to drink you can, but only when your blood sugar numbers are in control.

Effects Of Alcohol On Blood Sugar Levels

There are certain conditions under which patients with diabetes should not be drinking at all. In fact, there are certain factors that need to be understood by the patients in order to prevent their condition from worsening any further. There are many diabetes symptoms out of which eye disease, increased levels of triglycerides, nerve damage and high blood pressure are very common. It is now being said that alcohol and diabetes can further aggravate these symptoms and lead to many health complications.

Alcohol can cause extensive damage to the nerve cells in diabetics. It can as well worsen the pain, tingling and numbness associated with the condition. For patients with eye disease symptoms, heavy or light drinking can aggravate the condition. Also, diabetics with increased levels of blood sugar must avoid alcohol at all costs.

The triglyceride amount in the blood also increases with alcohol. Diabetics usually have high triglyceride, which increases even further with drinking. Other associated symptom such as diabetes weight loss is also made worse by alcohol. In some worst cases however, alcohol, consumption can as well decrease the blood sugar levels beyond normal when a person is under diabetic medication.

The exact diabetes cause is still not known to the experts, nonetheless, genetic factors and improper lifestyle habits are often considered responsible for the same. It is also believed that diabetes and exercise have a strong relationship. With regular exercise, particularly brisk walking, it is actually possible to bring down the blood sugar numbers. It is not just a theory, but a practical solution as well. Most diabetics have benefited from brisk walking; sometimes diabetes and exercise works better than medications.

Alcohol and Diabetes – Yes or No?

Diabetics under medication for controlling their blood sugar levels should consult their doctor before drinking; there are certain medications that might not work if you are drinking. As diabetes can interfere adversely with the liver, you need to control your diet plan as well and therefore you can switch over to a diabetes diet plan. As the liver fails to produce adequate glucose, alcohol can further interfere with the liver functions and create unpleasant complications. So, it can be rightly said that diabetes and alcohol is strictly NO NO!

Exercise And Diabetes

Exercise is one of the most important part of a diabetes treatment plan. In order to avoid any potential problems, it is extremely important to check your blood glucose level before, during and after exercise sessions. Diabetes and exercise are supposed to be intimately linked to one another, at least when you are trying to manage your blood sugar levels.

Exercise helps you in improving your blood glucose control while boosting your overall fitness, thereby reducing the risks associated with heart disease and nerve damage. However, there are certain challenges to exercising. Most people find it very difficult to maintain an exercise regime for any length of time or long enough to do them any long-term good.

Keeping Track of Blood Sugar Levels

Remembering to faithfully keep track of blood sugar levels before, during and after the exercise session is also a challenge in its own right for some diabetes sufferers. This record, if kept properly, will actually reveal how well your body is responding to exercise and how you can actually prevent blood sugar fluctuation.

Diabetes statistics reveals that people who have started exercising after being diagnosed with diabetes have been able to control the disease more effectively than those who relied on medications alone. However, before you jump into any diabetic fitness program, you need to talk to your doctor about the kind of exercise regime that will fit your personal situation and do you the most good health-wise.

For best results, you need to include a diabetic diet plan and combine it with regular exercise for more than 3 hours every week. These exercises can include brisk walking, bicycling, swimming and other intense activities. However, if you are taking certain medication, you will need to be extra careful about exercising.

In such cases, you will have to practice those exercises that have been recommended by the doctor as insulin doses can cause the blood sugar levels to dip. You must check your blood glucose levels every 30 minutes. This will further help you in determining if your blood sugar is stable, fluctuating or abnormally high.

Guidelines To Exercising

Before embarking on any exercise program, consider some of these guidelines:

If the blood sugar level is below 100 mg/dL – It is too low to start an exercise. Eat carbohydrates to stabilize the level and then exercise

100-250 mg/dL – Pre-exercise, this is the perfect blood sugar level for an individual. You can go ahead.

250-300 mg/dL - While the starting point is the warning zone, the 300 mark is too high for any exercise. It could as well increase your chance of developing keto-acidosis.In this case, delay your workout routine to avoid any complication.

Symptoms of Diabetes

During exercise, on the other hand, if you feel any symptoms of diabetes like blurred vision, faintness, nervousness or confusion, check your blood sugar levels immediately. If it is below normal, stop exercising and take some fruit juice or sugary foods. Candies can also be a good choice. Recheck the blood sugar levels after 15 minutes, if it’s still low, you must cancel your exercise program and have some more carbohydrate and then test the levels once again till the time it reaches its normal state.

After exercise, check the blood sugar levels immediately. Repeat checking after every hour to see where you stand. Exercise uses the stored sugar present in your liver and muscles. As the body rebuilds the stored sugar, it tends to take sugar from the blood. The more strenuous activities you practice, the more your blood sugar reserve will be affected.

If your blood sugar level dips after exercise, take some carbohydrate enriched food or snack like crackers, juices etc. Exercise for diabetics is indispensable. However, there are certain factors that must be considered by every diabetic before embarking on any exercise regime.

Diabetes Meal Plan

A healthy diabetes meal plan is critical for the treatment of this dreadful medical condition. In fact, it is as important as the various treatment options available today. A sizeable number of diabetics are either overweight or obese. If truth be told, you are more vulnerable to the disease if you are overweight.

So, the ideal way of preventing diabetes is to maintain a healthy body weight, and this applies to everyone. Following a healthy diabetic meal plan can actually help in reducing the possibility of the disease ravaging your body mercilessly while improving the symptoms you are experiencing, that is, if you are already suffering from the condition.

Diabetes, often known as “the silent killer”, can be life-threatening. It is absolutely possible to control the symptoms of this condition and live a healthy life, but you’ll have to make some compromises with your lifestyle and dietary habits.

Healthy Diet

I am sure you understand how crucial it is to maintain a healthy diet, which means eating good foods that can contribute to your health. But for diabetics, the emphasis on healthy eating is more significant than any other person without this disease. Eating healthy isn’t just what diabetics should aim at, rather they must eat a carefully selected diabetes diet to ensure good health.

For diabetics, a diabetic meal plan should include all the essential food items that can reduce the risks associated with the condition, such as stroke, heart diseases, kidney problems and vision problems. A diabetes meal plan must include varied foods encompassing all the essentials like whole grains, vegetables, beans, non-fat dairy products, poultry, lean meat and fish.

There are certain rules to be followed while preparing healthy diabetic meals for you or for the family. Firstly, you must carefully prepare a diabetes diet plan; this should be the first step. This would be your guide to the meal portions, ingredients and the time when you eat. Also, it must include your snacks and brunch as well.

Diabetes Meal Guide

Your regular food guide should be something like this:

50% carbohydrates including fruits, whole grains, cereals, vegetables and high-fiber foods.

30% proteins including milk products, red meat, eggs soy, chicken and foods that is low in saturated fats. White meat, like chicken contains lots of iron, which is an essential supplement for diabetics.

20% fats. But avoid saturated fats. Rather choose polyunsaturated fats (sunflower oil or flaxseed oil) or monounsaturated fats (canola oil or olive oil).

Next, your meal plan should fit in with your work schedule. By making such a plan, you would actually be avoiding any conflicts between your meal and your schedule, both of which are equally important.

Other Important Health Issues

Diabetes diet planning should not consume all your attention and make you neglect other factors that are important to your well-being. While striving to eat well and healthy, you must not overlook your cholesterol and blood pressure levels as they are equally important to keep a wary eye on. Body weight, cholesterol levels and blood pressure are all contributing factors; these can aggravate your health condition. Your diabetic meal plan should aim at controlling these conditions through foods, which is the most important factor.

Also, a healthy diabetic meal plan must incorporate food and exercise to help you in being healthy and maintaining your fitness. While medications are always provided, making certain changes in these aspects are important for treating the condition.

Lastly, make sure you are taking your drugs regularly. Creating a balance between the foods and the drugs is important. You can seek your doctor’s help in this respect.
